Inspire Outfit: Meet Molly

Meet Molly McIntire! This young girl's story is from World War II. I absolutely loved Molly's outfits that I was so excited to make an outfit for this one. So here is her "Meet Outfit". Just add some cute hair bows to your braids and you are good to go!

I hope everyone's week is starting out well. I am just squeezing this in between classes and homework!

Ulyana Sergeenko Spring 2013 Couture

Ulyana Sergeenko debuted her Spring 2013 Couture collection today in Paris. I wish so badly I could be there in person, even just to be in Paris and not go to any fashion event! Her inspiration came from her childhood books and the imagery that can come from them. Harper's Bazaar interviewed her about her inspiration.
Her reply:
"The typical Soviet childhood was one spent reading books because we didn't have
many entertainment options back then.  Books were treated with so much care and
respect — it was quite hard to get them. For every child, books were an opportunity
to get away from the reality to the world of fantasies, adventures and fairy tales.
The collection is inspired by well-known novels, among them the American classics
such as Gone with the WindThe Wizard of OzThe Adventures of  Tom SawyerThe
Headless Horseman etc. The muse of the collection is Scarlett O'Hara, especially when
played by Vivien Leigh in the famous Hollywood adaptation."

We all knew capes were cool before, but now they are just fantastic!

Very Scarlett O'Hara with Ulyana's love for the deep v-cut and voluminous, elegant skirt.

Those. glasses.

I don't know why this one is one of my favorites. I think it's the subtle slate blue and the awesome details on the waist belt and hip accents.  Look at the little animals! They are a theme throughout her designs.  They are on buttons, clips, and other adorable pieces.

The woman herself! So what did you think? I love her inspiration and I feel she transported me into those story books.  I think the creams and blacks were fantastic and then the saturated pops of color were very welcome.  I love that she tells stories with her designs. I just don't feel like a lot of designers do that.  I hope she keeps telling more stories! And  now when I read  any of these books again I will be picturing what the characters would wear if Ulyana made their outfits for them!  It's her amazing attention to detail that I love her designs that much more. They all have such character.
These were just my favorites so go ahead and check out the rest of her collection here.  I hope it wasn't a picture overload!

Quick updates and Outfits

Well school has started again folks! I started with a 6am jogging and workout class. Am I crazy? My classes didn't end until 4:30 so it was the longest day ever and needless to say I got sick. I'm feeling better today and somehow I only have work on Tuesdays which is a nice break and good time to get homework done. This was my back to school outfit and some other little things from these first few days in January. Hope you have a good day!

First New Year Outfit & a Simplicity Dress

Happy New Year! We did pretty much nothing for New Years except head outside and watch all of the illegal fireworks set off in town. And there were a TON of lanterns that were floating in the sky, just like in Tangled. It was so gorgeous! I tried to get pictures of the lanterns lit up in the pitch black sky so you may see those soon! And well yes I have a ton of new years resolutions but I am still planning them out so I actually DO them this year.
This is a dress I made this past year with the Cynthia Rowley Simplicity pattern.  I absolutely love the simplicity (ha get it? ok sorry that was bad) of the pattern and how great it looks and feels once finished.   It really is a basic dress silhouette that you can add or tweek things to make it seem completely different.  It's a great pattern if you are a newbie to patterns. The fabric is a great orange polyester and is super lightweight and flows so nicely in the wind.  I could not tell which way was up on the fabric no matter what way you put it, there were little lions or shoes that were upside down. What the heck?! So since I couldn't decide I sewed the skirt one way and the top the other way just for kicks.  I added the button-up piece from a top I got for 2 bucks and sewed that on for looks.  Let me know what you think in the comments! I used this pattern for a few other dresses that I made this year as well which I will post up soon.
