Fashion Show and Finals

Finals are winding down and I just have one more to go! We had our Fall Fashion Show Tuesday night for the Clothing Construction and Pattern Making classes.  I am so proud of all my students in the sewing class! Many started out not knowing how to sew at all to being able to make dresses and skirts.  They put in a lot of work. Aren't their dresses and skirts great? My teacher in the red dress has the class cut out a pattern out together and she sews it and wears it at the show as well. Along with this, the pattern design class showed our own project from the semester.  I can't believe it is already over but looking back I have learned so much!

Along with all this fun stuff I had to show off my final for Typography.  This is a 20+ hour final.  I have it printed as an actual book now but it's best in issuu form.  I was so excited about it yesterday that I felt like shoving it in random peoples faces and saying "I DESIGNED A BOOK! ME! DOESN'T IT LOOK AWESOME!?" Course I only did that to the people I knew so that was just my husband. The assignment was to take a book from Project Gutenberg and update the story to be more modern and focus on type as an art form, less on the images.

Shopping Sales | Modcloth Sale

I love Thanksgiving. I do! Especially when our family would go get a Christmas tree the day after at Battenfield's Christmas Tree farm. Best. days. ever. I have never been to a black friday sale and most likely will not go unless someone drags me along, however, I love online shopping on and around black friday.  And I'm going to let you in on some deals and trends that I have noticed.  Modcloth is having a special deal where tons of new items are 50% off. Pretty sweet! And they usually have a pretty sick sale on Friday too so keep your eyes peeled on your wish list to see if anything goes on sale from there, just in time for some Holiday Festivities!  My favorites…

50%off favorites

Ruche has a Black Friday Sale Bucket special going on and there are some adorable pieces there all for under twenty bucks! My favorites…

Ruche Black Friday

Tulle is also having a sale right now with up to 75% off some items. I will also be checking and Urban Outfitters.  Even if I can't  don't buy anything I just love to window shop! Do you go to Black Friday Sales? What are your favorite sales to shop online?

Meet Kirsten

Long time no see ay? Three weeks left of school and I couldn't be more over it. I realized that not only haven't I posted in over a month, but I haven't done an inspired outfit for the American Girl Doll series. Kirsten is one of my favorites and I was excited for this one!

If you are not familiar with Kirsten, she always came with an apron and then you could buy her accessories which included a bonnet, utensils and a handkerchief. So when I found this utensil necklace it couldn't have been a more perfect fit!  I am working on posts at the moment so I have more to share in the next few weeks. Thanks for sticking with me! Hope everyone has a good weekend and is prepping for a great Thanksgiving.

I disappeared ...

Well long time no see guys! School started and it has been kicking my butt. But it has been nice to be busy all the time.  I made the cheer and dance squad and we are performing tonight so I am beyond excited for this!  I thought I would show you what I have been up to for the past few weeks. I'll give you a hint, it's been artwork and classwork to apply for my BFA...
These are just some of my favorites. If you want to see some more work go ahead and follow this link.  It's not completely finished and I want to redo the actual look of the blog, but for now it will have to do! Well not too much longer until I have to start getting ready! I am so happy and blessed to be on a team again.  I have missed the team atmosphere the past few years out here. These girls and guys are amazing! Wish us luck and have a good weekend! The collaboration project me and my partner are working on is going to be, in one word, AWESOME. I will update and hopefully have a video to share about it as well. Thanks for sticking with me. Have a good weekend!

Forever Summer

I purchased this Nishe skirt a few months ago when it went on sale and I couldn't be happier with it! It's a picnic on a skirt and I love it. I have been busy busy busy lately and still falling behind. But I am still enjoying being so busy. If I don't have anything to do I feel lost so I kind of love constantly going. Hope everyone is having a good mid-week. I will have some fun news to share soon!

Keeping Up

I swear I have not forgotten about this blog. School has started and I was not prepared!  Have you guys been watching and catching up on London Fashion Week? For some reason I really like it better than NYFW but don't tell anyone I said that. Orla Kiely's presentation was one of my favorites. Such a story being told that the fashion is really fun.  The models must have had a good time on that one.  Watch the presentation on youtube here.

Bora Aksu opened LFW and wow I loved his collection. So many textures, layers, and the soft colors (except for that bright pink of course) I absolutely loved. I'll be looking to his collection for inspiration come spring for sure. The structure of the pieces and the complimentary fitting to the body just made the collection pleasing to look at. A+ Bora Aksu, A+.

Temperley London has been another favorite of mine, especially these gorgeous gowns.

I will share my other favorites soon but for now I have to run to class. Whoops! Have a good one!

Local Kahuku Farms

For my job's retreat yesterday, we visited local Kahuku Farms where they do a quick little tour and explain the plants they grow, how they grow them and what they produce.  This local farm was absolutely beautiful! We got to ride in a little tractor pull which reminded me of farms back home and doing tractor rides there. I learned  a lot about the plants here that heck I'd never know.  Did you know papaya's have three genders? Well yep they do! But this farm was fantastic and they have a little cafe in the front where you can get smoothies from the fruit at the farm, and ice cream as well.  I personally wanted to try their lilikoi ice cream. I. love. lilikoi. It will be something I miss when we leave hawaii. So I tried their lilikoi butter and shut the front door it was great. I may have to get back there and purchase a bottle or two. Hey I would love to support a local farm..and my need for lilikoi.
Check out my instagram for this video and another one as well

Have a good weekend! I start fall semester again on Monday. It is my last fall semester. Yikes!

Valentino Couture Fall 2013

As I look through Valentino's collections, I just always fall in love with the sophisticated nature of the garments.  The Fall 2013 Couture collection I absolutely love.  It has this Renaissance meets English Sherlock Holmes, but a pretty Sherlock Holmes.  When I saw the first photo below, I immediately thought of this painting from all my art history classes. I think what I love most about this collection is the innate blending of textures that flow into the other and make a cohesive look. I guess that's what they get paid the big bucks for right?  The velvet and embroidered silk, fur and light weight lace with sheer fabrics, and other combinations just made me want to try using more textures in my own looks. Textures give more depth to a look.  The overall muted tones of nudes, caramel golds, and some hints of burgundy really got me in the mood for fall.   Are there any collections that inspire you?
